What is a Registered Apprenticeship?

It's the oldest idea in workforce training, validated by the U.S. Department of Labor: learn a real career by doing the job — paid, mentored, and hands-on — and walk away with a credential employers trust. HTA has held three registered apprenticeships since 2018.

The short version

A registered apprenticeship combines paid on-the-job training with hands-on classroom learning under an experienced mentor. Because it's registered with the U.S. Department of Labor, the credential you earn is nationally recognized and portable — it goes with you, anywhere, for the rest of your career.

Why it works

Earn while you learn — then get hired.

No debt, no guesswork. Just real skills, real wages, and a credential that opens real doors.

Paid from day one

You earn a real wage while you train — apprenticeship is a job, not just a class.

Common questions

Straight answers.

Do I really get paid?

Yes. A registered apprenticeship is a paid job. You earn wages from the start, and they rise as your skills grow.

What does it cost?

Tuition varies by program — and scholarships, grants and benefits (including GI Bill® and VA) help cover it for students who qualify. Ask us what you'd be eligible for.

Do I need a degree or experience?

No. Our pre-apprenticeship on-ramp is built for beginners. If you're willing to learn hands-on, there's a path for you.

How long does it take?

It varies by track, but you're working and earning the whole way — and you leave with a credential and real experience.

Who hires apprentices?

Indiana employers who partner with HTA — they get screened, job-ready talent, and many apprentices are hired by the company they train with.

Is this good for veterans?

Yes. HTA is VA Certified, Military Friendly, and GI Bill–friendly. Registered apprenticeships are an excellent fit for those who've served.
